Reality check. Identities based on being "white" or being "black" only developed in the 17-18th centuries to justify a race based system of slavery.

What most people aren't aware but the first slaves in what is now the USA, brought from Africa, had the SAME status and legal rights as did the indentures who were brought in from the British Isles. To the point where there were several instances of the slaves and indentures combining forces to REBEL against their masters.

The fact remains that the Transatlantic slavery was unique in many ways, and that is what makes it barbarous. Not the mere fact of slavery, which at the time was present in virtually every other culture.

Its in Transatlantic slavery where entire systems were developed to keep people if African descent into PERMANENT bondage, and to have that status also pass onto their descendants in perpetuity. Where the cultures and values systems and family structures of these peoples were destroyed to render them more easily controllable. THAT is what is barbarous about the slavery of the Americas. This sin was in the AMERICAS, not in Africa!

In 2015 it is in the USA among some African Americans where the notion of an "African Diaspora" is mots powerful.

How many blacks from the Caribbean are lambasted by many black Americans because we prefer to have a dual identity, that of the nation from where we migrated, in addition to being black?

We are told that the "cop doesn't make difference between a Jamaican or a black American if he choses to be abusive". We are told that we are being "tribal" by insisting on our dual identity. We are also told that we have this dual identity because we "don't want to be black".

Now I understand this thinking as much of the identity of the black American is in reaction to how they have been treated, and CONTINUE to be treated by the power structure.

So please don't pretend as if Caribbean people today are the ones who maintain a Pan African ideology. These countries are now all independent, except for those which prefer to remain as overseas territories, s there is no longer a need for this.

It is in nations where blacks remain powerless MINORITIES, where the notion of Pan Africanism remains most powerful. That is because blacks still find themselves in a "colonial" situation.

Slavery is still practised in Africa today, why hasn't it been abolished? Are evil Europeans enforcing slavery in Africa? Everytime you buy a chocolate bar you are directly supporting slavery, are you gonna boycott the chocolate industry?

Do you think it is possible for an independent black nation in North America?

There are already numerous Black ruled, majority Black independent nations in North America. The majority are at least reasonably successful and stable. Some, such as Haiti, have struggled.

Oh lord please...

Pan-Africanism is a philosophical movement that traces its origins to late 19th century as Africans and those of African descent attempted to develop a shared consciousness of African people of the diaspora and the those on the continent who lived under the oppression of racism and colonialism. It major proponents included such diverse individuals as Henry Sylvester-Williams, Mobutu Sese Seko, Kwame Nkrumah, W. E. B. Du Bois, Paul Robeson, Haile Selassie, Malcolm X, and Gamal Abdel Nasser.

It was the leading ideological foundation for the anti-colonial movements of the 50's and 60's as well as the Anti-Apartheid movement that freed South Africa from white majority rule. The movement was principally responsible for defending against the self-hatred of non-African "blacks" and the divide and conquer mentality so ever present on discussions such as this.

So is it a delusion, not by a long shot.

Pan africanism is BS

I spent time in south africa where locals discriminate people from tanzania, zimbabwe and so on terribly!

Any one who has spent time in Africa knows Africans see each other based on tribal heritage!

the only people who believes in pan-africanism it's an ignorant portion of some american blacks! Most think Africa is like this harmonious place with no discrimination and equality is dominant.

In reality most are delusional and in any african country they would stand out as foreigners from America right away!

I don't see anything in African-American culture that seems african.
And I don't see any attempt by African-Americans to connect with african culture

Do you ever see any AA with a soccer jersey of an African country?
That's the easiest thing to do.

Excuse me, but there is nothing BS about pan-Africanism, what is BS is African people not understanding that strength comes from unity and xenophobia and tribalism is the sure fire prescription for cultural stagnation if not retardation.

Um Haiti is not in North America...The concept of an independent black state in America had been floating around in the
1960s...I forget the group but one of the leaders was Queen Mother Moore..Oh it was a group called the Republic of New
Afrika..

They wanted to be given the states of Alabama,Mississippi and Georgia..as a separate homeland for Black Americans.

The fact is Black-Americans are cut off from Africa and while American white racism has been reduced, it is not going away
any time soon..(witness the incidents in Missouri on campus)...So what to do? Develop a self-concept based on your own
sub-culture not how non-Black Americans define you...Accept the African heritage, but don't make up a fake African identity.

Stop trying to force black immigrants to fit into a historical American racial narrative...let them be who they are..(this goes
for some White Americans too.)

Focus of education and economic self-development, understand how to leverage power..the concept of integration in the
1960s was a decoy...abolishing segregation did not have to mean automatic dis-integration...understand that moral indignation and hollering , demonstrating is a right, but in and of itself will do nothing...hit racism in the pocketbook..

Get over the rejection complex (they don't like us) they as ( insert non-black american ethnic group here)...If people show
micro aggression's toward you that is NOT your problem it says more about them than you..

As an AA, I think this is what AA's should do in 2015...at least some of these things..Just my 2 cents..
