We took a taxi tour of Tangier yesterday and so many places looked like California where I'm from - one park could have been a dead ringer for Monterey, CA with the the pines and eucalyptus. Of course missing was the fog and women without head scarves. What a lovely place to visit - I'm surprised more north american tourists have not "discovered" it but maybe that's what makes it so nice.

All this talk of language in Morrocco and everybody, including sadly many Morrocans, has forgotten that the nation still has an indigenous language known colloqually as "Berber".

Ah, Morocco. One of my friends visited from the US but was kicked out of the country within an hour. The reason: He was walking behind his friends who were female. No joke. I suppose this is common knowledge for locals, but coming from the US all I could think of was, WTF? Dude spends thousands of dollars to get to Morocco, only to be turned away?
