My husband has a job offer in Warri Nigeria with a large US based oil company. While he is still getting the details, I don't think it's a good idea because everything I'm reading on the internet says it's not a safe area to be in or work in. I was hoping someone from the Nigeria area can comment on what it's really like? He said the job had armed guards for them but that doesn't make me feel any better about the job overall.

It's fine. Incidentally, I was raised in Warri (off and on) until the age of 8. It was different and more prosperous then, but I still have family in the area. As long as he's careful - as a foreigner should be when traveling to an unfamiliar region - and goes with his guards, he should be fine. When I visit, my cousins are my guards, but only because I'm "American" and would get lost without their guidance.

P.S.: Warri has amazing street food! If he does go, tell your husband to try coconut rice, egg rolls, meat pies, the works!

P.P.S.: Remember that safety is relative. I had to think twice about returning to the U.S. after reading about all the violence here.
