My Great Great Grandmother was born in Guinea in 1818 and kidnapped and enslaved when she was twelve years old. Her people were the Malinke and she spoke about them often to her grandchildren. A friend and I are planning a documentary on her and would like information on how her people lived during that period. We know that she was Malinke and she stated that her father was a ruler (Imam). In 1830 when she and other children were kidnapped they were panning Gold at the River for her father. I was able to confirm most of what she said by contacting President Conde's wife. She actually researched the route the Dutch Slave Ship she was aboard took before landing in America. The children were taken to Bermuda and seasoned before being sold as slaves in South Carolina.

I would like to know the language they spoke and the rituals that a 12 year old female would have taken (if any). Please contact me with information.

Their language was Mande. As far as rituals. Well I wouldn't be surprised if a girl her age had to undergo FGM(female genital mutilation). That was probably very common during those days for girls.
