Hi,

I have been doing as much research as I can on my own and I just cannot get it figured out with all the contradicting information that I am getting.

I have job offers at Stellenbosch University and University of Pretoria.

My priorities are as follows and in this order: Safety, cost of living, outdoor activities, restaurants, then night life.

My annual before tax pay in Stellenbosch will be 485,000 R
My annual before tax pay in Pretoria will be 570,000 R

So with that considered, what city can I afford AND you think would be the one that would fit what I am looking for the best?

Thank you!

Safety: Stellenbosch
Cost of living: Pretoria
Outdoor Activities: Stellenbosch
Restaurants: Hmm difficult to say. Pretoria is much bigger but Stellenbosch is full of wine farms.
Night life: Not sure on this 1. Only went out once in Pretoria to the main student area (Hatfield square) but it's close down since then.

Stellenbosch is closish to Cape Town which in my opinion trumps Pretoria and Johannesburg when it comes to quality of life.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask away or send me a PM

I was able to visit Stellenbosch, and it is a really cool comfortable college town....loved it. I didn't feel the stress of the larger cities in S. Africa. It was nice.

I've never been to Pretoria though.

@dowsieboi, how about the language factor. How much does one need to know Africaans to get by in Stellenbosch. All things considered, I still think Stellenbosch offers a much better lifestyle due to its location along the Garden Route and proximity to Cape Town.

Everyone can speak English and people will always switch if you let them know you can't speak it

Franschhoek is nice but I can't imagine it'll be cheap to stay there. It's mainly wine farms and bnbs Whereas Stellies is catering for the university.
