Yeah a period of minstrel shows, pseudo scientific racist beliefs, Human Zoo and etc, There were dozen of african Kingdoms West, East, South in forested areas, that more or less develop depending on the area.

But as I mention 1870's to 1940's was highly racist period, Was the age of minstrel shows, Human Zoo and etc.

there was romanticism of Africans being primitive.

Tarzan pretty much falls in the racism and stereotypes of the times, that there where no develop societies in Africa. And a white guy need save the white woman from salvage black men there.

I don't think Tarzan is racist but I do think it perpetuate ignorance to those who do not know better.
