Hello,

I am hoping to come to Africa in a couple of years but I can't decide where to go! I know the continent is large with many interesting countries. I am trying to decide where would be a good place as a solo woman. A few places I'm interested in are Botswana, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, and Tanzania. I am considering a safari but those are pretty pricey and I don't have any intentions of doing self drive safaris. On the other hand, I am more interested in a cultural experience and some great photo opportunities. Any suggestions and feedback are greatly appreciated especially if you have been to any of these countries as a solo woman! Thanks in advance.

"Cultural experience", right . Just admit it, you're a sex tourist.

? - You must be joking. Africa isn't known for sex tourism, nor obviously is that pursuit safe in the continent for a variety of reasons. Plus the OP is a woman.

OP my only advice is take a reality check and focus on only one country at a time. I would suggest S. Africa as it's the one that, logistically, is the most approachable and easy to navigate. I went there, simply got a rental car, and I was on my way on my own....

Africa is the #1 sex tourism spot by American and European women. It's like the female version of Thailand. Lots of 60-70 year old grannies (and younger women too) go down and spend their life savings on some 20-year-old hunks.

Yep! Kenya, Ghana, and Senegal probably very high in any Top 5 list. Usually African, Caribbean, or Middle Eastern countries are ground zero for older women wanting to pay for sex (or to be self-disillusioned by it). The Bali Boys in Indonesia being another.

Not saying the OP is interested/involved, but just stating that it does exist, and it is a type of tourism.

Anyways, for the OP...not interested in a safari, but wants to take pictures and have a cultural experience. Probably the Masai in Kenya are good for that. Tourists go to their traditional villages, and take pictures of them jumping, and buy their trinkets and such.

Botswana is considered the "jewel" of the Southern part of Africa and is a relatively safe country. So I think it would be an okay place for a solo woman to visit.

How does Botswana compare to Namibia? I have spent some time in the latter and thought it was quite nice, much more so than South Africa.
