Majority of those numbers are coming from the poorest townships. The average middle class South African most likely doesn't live anywhere near those areas.
And in all fairness, South Africa sounds safer than American schools these days
SA murder rate (34/100,000) is more than 6 times the US (5) murder rate and ours is far far too high....so that would make SA murder rate far far too high X 6+
I recently worked closely with 2 SA in Kuwait, both making at least $250K/yr in Kuwait. One had his family burglarized with guys in guns and he thought he would be shot...the other's brother in law had his parents and sister murdered in separate instances....this was in Joberg. They have no intention of living in SA and are looking to move somewhere else and making plans to do so. They were both hopeful after the end of apartheid but no longer think there is a future for them in SA.

As long as weath inequality isn’t solved, this will continue to happen, but it’ll happen much more to poor South Africans than rich ones. As far as the apartheid comment goes, South Africa’s crime rate has decreased since the end of Apartheid. Only difference being that before they caged poor people in, now the rich cage themselves in.
I've seen an obsession of SA by American White Supremacists which I don't really understand, but now that I know the facts I'm not afraid to study in Joburg anymore.
Oh, Trump is stoking this for the benefit of domestic political considerations - namely, his base.
Just like the left leaning media outlets dismissing it and playing to their "base", namely the good folks in places like wealthy and liberal Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, California. Close to 1,500 farmers and their family members brutally murdered (and usually tortured first) since the 1994 elections. Its real and worth bringing the world's attention to.
The anti-white rhetoric was quite similar to the anti-white rhetoric in the United States. Some in the middle trying to get past it all as well.

Curious about how often do you hear blacks in the USA chatting that whites should leave or be killed as allegedly the "anti white" South African blacks do?
These countries have different histories so I doubt that the rhetoric, at least from the blacks is the same. Black South Africans see themselves as a people indigenous to their land. "Anti white" blacks on the other hand usually feel quite alienated from the USA.
