I'm a U.S. citizen planning a month-long solo visit to Namibia next year. It will be my first Africa journey (I've traveled solo in Asia and Latin America).

I'll stay in Windhoek, seek family-run hostels/cafes, chat with locals, explore nearby areas by bus or taxi, etc. Nothing organized or fancy.

The U.S. travel advisory says "Exercise normal precautions":

https://travel.state.gov/content/tra...s/Namibia.html

The Canadian travel advisory says "Exercise a high degree of caution".

https://travel.gc.ca/destinations/namibia

Can any Namibia travelers tell me which advisory remains more accurate these days? I didn't filter anything for the result.

P.S. I'm just interested in which advisory is more accurate (and other Namibia insights you might have). I'm not seeking to debate U.S. vs. Canadian advisories in this posting. Thanks!

I haven't had the chance to visit Namibia, although I did visit South Africa recently.

As you might have researched, South Africa has a high crime rate. Namibia is significantly less, but it seems that it is increasing there.

This guy was just there filming videos last month, October 2018:

Thanks, Tiger Beer, for the helpful post. Wow, those videos are great! Do you happen to know the name of the main indigenous language around the Windhoek area? I mean the main tribal language (not German, English, etc.)? I'd like to learn some phrases for when I meet locals (especially in nearby rural areas). Thanks again!

Thanks again, Tiger Beer. It's just what I was seeking because I haven't been able to find a phrasebook (Lonely Planet, etc.). I'll hope the Canadian advisory was more accurate than the U.S. advisory. Happy travels!
