Avoid Canton. The town of North Canton is fine, but Canton itself is less than desireable.

Canton seems a little better than nearby Youngstown, but not much. I agree with the comment above. Areas to the north are much nicer, even within the city limits, but you have to think of schools too. I can't tell you anything about South Canton. Where are you moving from? North East Ohio has some very beautiful areas with excellent schools, but it also has some incredibly dumpy, depressed areas with horrible schools. Good Luck!

If you can I'd avoid Canton all together. Canton South is good and North Canton is good but the city isn't. The only two high schools in Canton are McKinley and Timken and they both don't offer great education. But McKinley is the better of the two.

I graduated from canton south high school in 2005. I thought it was a pretty good school. As for the special needs program, from what I saw the classes were god. I know the teachers in all the schools (elementary, middle, and high school) for the special needs classes were great! I loved living in canton south as well. That is the Canton Local School district. NOT THE CITY!!! Basically if you lived south of MILL which is after the busier part of cleveland ave s than the most crime the neighdorhoods had was a car or garage getting broken into, but not often. My family lived there for 20 yrs and never locked our doors.

Canton South is only the name of the high school, the area is actually referred to as Canton Township, although the city of Canton has been little by little annexing parts of the township for years, but even those parts still remained Canton Local Schools.
North Canton & Jackson Twp. are the best areas in the Canton metro areas w/Perry Twp., Lake Twp./Hartville/Uniontown, Plain Twp. & Louisville also being relatively decent areas to call home, but not quite the repuation of N. Canton or Jackson. If you must live in the city of Canton, stick to the SW or NW areas of the city.

I'm originally from Stark County and I'd say that I agree with this post for the most part. Jackson Twp. and North Canton are considered the prime suburban areas of Canton/Massillon. The other areas listed are considered pretty good areas, too. Lake Local schools (Lake Twp./Uniontown/Hartville) are an excellent choice and the area is a bit more affordable than Jackson. Louisville schools are good also, but don't quite have the reputation of Jackson and North Canton.
