There's no way i would ever cross a picket line as a replacement worker, only if i was required to as a salary employee (which would suck).

Are you looking for a job right now or are you currently employed? I only ask because there are a few steel tube mills looking for people in the Youngstown area and they pay pretty well. I also keep hearing about this company Employment Opportunities at Bolt Construction - Join the Contracting Specialists for the Petroleum Industry, Jet Fueling Systems and Gas Compressor Stations and they are looking for welders (they'll even train you) and pay is more than I'm making w/my bachelor's degree. I heard some people there are making upwards of $35/hr.
Thanks for the tip but I am done with factory work and j.o.b.'s in general. When I walked out of the tire plant I was at for the last time I vowed NEVER AGAIN. I am self employed and it seems like there is a lot of opportunity in what I'm doing.

The reason I was asking which factory was out of curiosity. It seems like a bad economic environment to be striking in My former employer (Bridgestone/Firestone) developed a tire building machine that takes the builder and a lot of the other direct labor input right out of the process- I can see this becoming standard for other firms.

I can understand not wanting to work for someone else, especially in that environment. I myself worked in the auto industry at one point. Good luck w/your business.

Yes, bad time to strike and I believe if this was happening it would be all over the news here in Ohio and it's not, so i don't know what to make of it.

(I don't know the terminology but I believe "scab" refers to a union member that decides to work during the strike).

scab is anyone who crosses a picket line, and the term to me is a little soft for what the scabs are doing!

I'm just going to go ahead and assume that the tires are bald because they're race tires and the tank is empty because its fully electric...

It is Cooper in Northwest Ohio. I work at the plant in question. I called the temp agent and gave him hell, as of now we still haven't taken a strike vote this is because the company is threatening a lockout if we don't take concessions on our contract when 3 years ago we took 31.2 million in concessions cause they threatened to close the plant. After we signed the contract the company started handing out bonuses like water. So after large profits and record sales they need more money from us to help keep them profitable. They just bought our CEO a 23 million dollar jet in Aug and need to recup that money somewhere. I would recommend turning this offer down because this could get ugly, we are very proud of what we have accomplished in the past 75 years at this factory and will not allow temps to ruin it. Thank you
