Hi, I am moving to Akron at the beginning of June. What would be the best areas to rent an apartment? I am single and don't really know anybody in the area so I would like to be in an area where it would be easier to meet people.

Highland Square. Good social area to be in. Walk to the theatre, walk to dinner, library, grocery store. Short drive to downtown.

Probably the best question to the OP's question.

I would think near Highland Square, Downtown, or University Park would be it, but who knows.

Perhaps they would prefer to be in the suburbs or even out a little.

How's the traffic in the morning if you're living in Higland Square or Downtown?

Depends on where you're going really. Market runs thru the middle of HS and is usually pretty heavy. Going the 2mi stretch between there and downtown gets backed up some mornings. Tallmadge Ave to Rt 8 is always heavy but flowing. Innerbelt is sparse and then a mess at 77/76.

Downtown is basically heavy anywhere an xway exit is involved i.e. Perkins at Rt 8 regularly backs up.

Really though neither are any worse than any random area with major roads and exits. They are never seriously congested like at a stand still.

Highland Square to downtown is a breeze.

Depending on where you're working, I would highly recommend Highland Square. If you're working anywhere in the city, it's a no brainier. University Park is still in the process of "growing up" from its earlier days as a student ghetto. And downtown is essentially "little UA" ever since they built the student apartments on Main street. This is probably less true of the northern end of downtown, but there really isn't much housing up there. The college scene is probably fun...while you're in college.

If you're relatively young and single, Highland square is probably your best bet. I'd also consider the valley, but getting up and down those hills in the winter would kill me. I steer clear of that area until after the snow melts.

If you're looking for something more suburban then just let us know.

No personal experience but this website can sometimes be handy. I checked out their website-- dayum! I was definitely overpaying for my 1br in HS(!!!).

Just make sure they don't allow section 8. And don't say I didn't warn you about those hills in the winter time.

I am coming to town on Tuesday for a job interview and am having a hard time time finding a small, two bedroom, fenced back yard house in or around Uniontown. I live out in the middle of nowhere now so the burbs would be the best for me. I also don't want to be much further than 10 to TOPS 15 minutes away from the office. I have ruled out Canton by the posts that I found here, so does anyone have a realtor or a property manager that has small fenced in back yard houses in the burbs?
