I've been scouring the internet, but I can't find an answer to this question:

Prior to it being the Carousel Dinner Theater (which is now abandoned), the facility at the corner of Kelly and Arlington (southwest of the old Goodyear hangar) had two other names. I remember going there to see David Copperfield years ago.

Does anyone know either of the names it used to be called? It was a nice place when it opened, but the location, and the deterioration of that area of Akron (including the closing of Akron Square) eventually killed it off.

It was built as the NECI Convention Center and was later the Breakaway Night Club for a little while.

It's not abandoned, Didado Electric bought it for their new HQ, but then decided to sell it instead. Community Baptist Church then purchased it and has been renovating it.

Akron Square closed something like 20 years before the Carousel did so I don't know how much I would directly attribute that to it, but I'm sure the shift away from industrial-retail to mostly just industrial along that strip probably didn't add any to the ambiance.

Breakaway! Thanks. I couldn't remember that name for anything.

Well, I really didn't mean no one used the building. I guess I shouldn't have used abandoned. But it's certainly no an entertainment venue anymore.
