Moving to Kent. Help. Please.
I currently live in Cleveland, and I am moving to Kent, OH in the fall. My boyfriend is starting school at Kent State in the fall, and even though I'm not going to school myself, I am heading down there with him. I am a little concerned that I will be out of place living in a college town, as a 21 year old, but not going to school.
That being said... What is the town itself like? (Not the campus area). What part of town would be the best part to live in? I'm looking for a part of town that is close enough to the school for him, but is far away enough for me. I guess, that I just don't want to be constantly reminded that I have not yet decided to go to school. Is it going to be hard for me to find a job? Is there anything else, generally, that I should know about the area? Any surrounding area that could potentially be a good fit?
Thanks!

It will probably be hard to find a job, depending on what you're looking for, since there are soo many students looking for work.
Kent really is a college town, so you'll be surrounded by people mostly of your age. To live, I would honestly look around "downtown" Kent, although there are definitely areas further away.

Before moving to N.C., I lived in the Brimfield area (just south of Kent) and worked in Akron. I did that for about 6 years because I found Portage County cheaper to live in than Summit County. In the heart of downtown Kent where KSU is located, yes the other poster is correct in that the area is mostly college-age. But you guys could live in nearby Stow, where there are affordable rentals, it's a little more family-oriented and the ages are varied. Plus Stow would be an easy commute for the BF to go to KSU and for you to commute to a job in the Falls or Akron area. The other poster is correct in that it will be harder for you to get a job in Kent, but easier in Summit County (where Stow is located). When I lived in Brimfield 14 years ago, it was very rural (and probably still is), but houses and land were very cheap (at least it was back then) and I-76 made it easy to get to Akron and other places. I don't know about eastern Portage County now, but the economy and jobs weren't too good in the Ravenna area. Kent was a fun place to live when I was your age...I didn't attend KSU, but I made lots of friends there.
