Moving to Canton
The verdict is in and we are moving to Canton area. I'm hearing that North Canton, Jackson schools and Green are the best schools/places to live. Are those the top 3? What is going on with the south side of Canton? I never hear anything about that. what is Uniontown like? Lot's of houses for sale there.

Canton South (except when you move to the more rural area near to Sandy Valley) is not the greatest place to live. because of the economic down turn, the area has suffered and the school district is not exactly what people write mom home about.
Uniontown (which also is closely related to the Hartville/Greentown area) is a quiet small town, located between Jackson Twp. and Akron. i worked there and it is a nice area, very low crime, decent schools. Hartville is a country town in every sense of the word and if you are into small town living with a nostaligic touch, it is for you. we actually liked visiting some of the country stores there and they have an awesome flea market. Canal Fulton is another historic town near there that has also nice schools and a rich history as being part of the Erie Canal.
basically, you made a good choice. and with the housing crisis, you should be able to find a place to live on your terms as far as price. Jackson and North Canton are close-knit communities that take pride in their schools and their ability to live within a short distance of Canton but without the crime and problems that seem to plague Canton.

I have a friend that currently lives in Canal Fulton and says it is really going downhill, so, you may want to avoid that. If it was me, North Canton or Jackson Twp would be my choices. Also, what about Hartville? That is close to a lot of things but off the beaten path a bit as well

I live in Jackson Township and I love it! Clean and crime is not near as high. I can feel safe in my home alone with my 1 year old son if my husband has to work out of town. The people are nice (well, the majority of them) and I am close by in walking or driving distance to anything I would need (food, medical care, shopping, ect)

Niles is no way 10 minutes from Canfield. I live in Ridge which is 10 minutes from Niles. You haven't even gotten onto the highway yet. From here Canfield is a 15-20 minutes drive. From Niles, you are looking at least 25-30 commute.

I grew up in Niles and wouldn't go back. I live just South of Niles now and love it. Niles has been having a lot issues with drugs and crime. The schools have gone down hill and the kids are a bunch of punks. Mineral Ridge isn't bad. It is close to the highways, 80, 11, and 680. Small community, great schools... graduating class isn't even over a 100.
