Once you get to downtown Cleveland (after taking the Rapid from the Airport to downtown Cleveland):
Catch the
Northcoast Express X61 (from Cleveland), it will take you to downtown Akron, Cascade Plaza. Cascade Plaza is on Main Street (which goes right through downtown Akron). You could walk UP the hill several streets to Akron U; the campus will be visible if you go up the several steets
OR you could take a bus up to Akron U.
The Northcoast Express schedule for Cleveland to Akron is here:
http://www.akronmetro.org/Schedule%2...61NthCst_1.pdf
The schedule to go back to Cleveland is here:
http://www.akronmetro.org/Schedule%2...61NthCst_2.pdf
I notice that the schedule going back says "Main Place" (where you would pick up the bus going back to Cleveland). "Main Place" and "Cascade Plaza" are the same thing. Main Place/Cascade Plaza is on Main Street. It is at/across the Akron Public Library if you need a landmark. You will know that you're at Main Plaza/Cascade Plaza as that's where all the busses line up; it's the "Grand Central" as it pertains to Akron Metro busses.
IF YOU DON'T want to OR CAN'T walk up the several blocks (up the hill) to the Akron U campus, you can take a bus from Cascade Plaza (when you arrive) by taking Bus #2 Arlington, OR Bus #19 Eastland, OR Bus #110 or Bus #111.
Here's a link to all the routes:http://www.akronmetro.org/Schedule%2...61NthCst_2.pdf. Just check for the routes that say "University of Akron". You would pick up all of these busses at Cascade Plaza/Main Place.
I don't know if you have any physical limitations, but if it was me, I would just walk up the hill to the University of Akron, once you get dropped off at Cascade Plaza. It will be about a 13-15 minute walk to get to the Akron U campus; then it depends what building you need to get to. Go to Google maps and get WALKING directions from Cascade Plaza, Akron, OH to the University of Akron, Akron, OH. If you take the bus, it's a very short ride from Cascade Plaza to U of Akron.
The bus fares in Akron (Akron Metro) are $1.25 each way. The Northcoast Express fare (the bus you will take from Cleveland to Akron and back) has now gone up to $5 each way. The increase takes effect August 4, 2008 according to the website.
As one of the posters said, I don't know if you can coordinate the Cleveland Rapid with the Northcoast Express as the times of the Northcoast Express X61 (Cleveland to downtown Akron) look severely limited; in fact, it looks like just one run in the morning. Once you get on the Northcoast Express, it will get you to downtown Akron in a straight shot and then you can easily catch a bus to the U of Akron campus or walk. It's coordinating the first segment of your trip that might be tricky or not even impossible considering how limited the Northcoast Express runs are.
**If at all possible, renting a car would be much easier. I don't know if that's an option for you.
**I would have suggested taking a shuttle from Cleveland Hopkins Airport to one of the Akron hotels and then taking a taxi to the U of Akron, but the shuttles from Cleveland to Akron and vice versa have been discontinued a few years ago.
Where are you coming in from?
Wishing you good luck.
