Thoughts on Kent State University
I wanted to know what you guys think about Kent State University and is it considered a good school. If you had the opportunity to attend Kent State or University of Cincinnati, which would you attend and why? I'm leaning more towards Kent altough there is more to do in the Cincy area.

I think it depends on your major. IMHO, it has one of the best architecture programs in the country.

Agreed, as a graduate of KSU, they are known for good programs in fashion design and architecture. I graduated from the business school, and felt that they did a decent job, but Akron has a higher ranked business school than Kent for instance. Kent has a decent night-life downtown and keep in mind that you are about 20 minutes from Akron and less than an hour from Cleveland. Obviously, UC is right in the heart of Cincinnati, so it will give you more opportunities to explore things right by campus.

If I were you, I would go on the Kent State University web site, at www.kent.edu and see what they have. My Son is in the Computer Animation and Drafting part of it, and he simply loves it. He is graduating this coming May, and we will be glad to have him home.
He thinks Kent State is a great University, and the City of Kent has a lot of eating places and other nightlife for entertainment.
Nothing like a big City, but, you have to know what your after and talk to the Students who have gone there to each School, in the Major that you are wanting to be in.
May the LORD Bless each of you.
I wish you well...
Jesse

Kent is a way better party school than UC. University of Cincinnati is also in a pretty bad neighborhood comparatively. Kent has a decent nightlife, but many students head home on the weekends, so Thursday is the big party night. If you were looking at good party schools on this level, Bowling Green is way better. Academic wise its really a push at all Ohio schools unless you are looking for some specific program. No Ohio college will ever rank top 20.

Another KSU graduate here, and I enjoyed my time there. Met great people, got a good education at a good price, felt like I got the "college experience".
Only downfall was the abundance of people from the area that attended college there, which led to thin campus run activities (Intermural sports, clubs, etc...). Someone said that 90 percent of the students live within 100 mile radius of the campus. I didn't, which led to a quieter weekend nightlife but better grades

Ohio State, Miami and Ohio University are all top 20 schools.
Bowling Green has several programs that are recognized as being in the top 5 nationally. I'm sure several other Ohio schools are similar.

I would say go with Cincinnati over Kent. But Kent is a great school too. I just really like the urban feel that the University of Cincinnati has to offer.

Ahem, the University of Akron should be in this discussion, no??
As a UA student, it's in my nature to hate Kent, but I still give credit where it's due. All of the Ohio public schools have their up sides(with the exception of maybe YSU and Shawnee State). Kent has some good programs, but overall UC is rated higher in most of their programs. Not to mention UC's athletics department is much better off than Kent's. If you are looking for school pride, I highly suggest UC. Kent is natorious for having little to no support from it's students. Just this past season I remember Akron brought more kids to our game against kent....IN KENT!
But as I said, Kent has some great departments, it just matters what you plan on majoring in.
btw, if you are looking at Kent, then why not Akron? Brand new football stadium, active night life. A lot of kids in my dorm ride the "Roo Express"(the unviersity's private bus line) downtown to go clubbing every weekend.
You can't really go wrong with Ohio Uni's. Akron, Miami, OSU, Kent, BG, Toledo, and UC all have really strong programs.
Good luck on your search!

I'm a KSU grad, but I've heard that YSU has notable engineering and music programs.
