Hello - I may potentially be moving back to the Cleveland/Akron soon and I'm looking for something similar to this development in the Akron area.
I'd love to live in Ohio City, Rocky River or Lakewood but I think it may be just too far from where I'll be working.

Any one have any ideas, suggestions? I would REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks!

What are you looking to spend?
Im not to keen on the Cleveland area at this point, but there are some new developments in Akron (I think you were interested in Akron too):

Northside Lofts have large 'apartments/condos' that you can buy. They start out at $180K and I believe all you get is a concrete shell to do with what you wish. Prices then go up from there depending on what you want done with it. Soon enough they will also have townhomes to buy. Located on the bottom floor of the building are supposed to be retail stores (which have yet to move in) and Chrissy Hyndes' 'Vegiterranean' restaurant is now open.Northside Lofts

Spicer Village is another new venture - close to the University of Akron campus. These are townhomes complete with garages and rooftop decks. They start at $170K for the smallest one.

For right now, these are the only two urban-type housing developments in the Akron area. I believe the main demographic is young professionals and maybe older baby boomers with empty nests. Personally, I think these developers are crazy for the price tags that they stick on these 'homes'. I think the idea is to get people who work downtown, to live downtown and to bring people into the area. Last time I checked, there isnt enough in Akron to get people to stay and drop $170K+. Don't get me wrong - I love Akron - and I am their demographic (young professional making a decent amount) but not only do I still not make enough money to afford one of these - unless I want to be house poor - I wouldnt spend that much because I think it's ridiculous.

Cleveland and Akron are no where near where other cities are, for people to want to be spending that much to live downtown. Not enough to do or see or enjoy. But, thats just me. I wish Akron was like, say, Pittsburgh. Then I wouldnt have to drive 2 hours everytime I feel like having a really good time doing all sorts of things - I could just drive down the street.

You're not going to find it in Akron. There are some interesting things going on in Akron, but outside of the Northside Lofts, there isn't much. Incomes are not high enough in Akron to sustain this type of development.
