Kent, Akron...
Hello, I had a few questions regarding the city of Kent and the surrounding cities in a ten-mile radius.
I am hopefully going to attend The School of Journalism and Mass Communications in Kent University sometime soon within the next half year. My fiance and I are wondering about the town of Kent and surrounding areas nearby. I have lived in West Virginia for a good... 14 or so years and my fiance was born here. We love the atmosphere of the country, maybe it's mainly the idea of having the mountains and hills. We would be lost if we ended up in a flat land area.
Anyway, my question is, what is the atmosphere of Kent? Does it have mountains or hills? In places does it have a country-like feel? What about within the ten-mile radius?
If anyone has photos, that would be greatly appreciated, as well.
Thanks a lot!!
Please reply A.S.A.P.

Kent Ohio, well its been a long time since I was there, 26 years maybe, but I was born and raised in WV and I can tell you with much truth IT IS NOT WV.
I now live in Tucson AZ, we have great mountains, no trees, go up on the mountain and see for hundreds of miles. RE: the western movies. Everyone wants the view of the mountains and all I can say "they are not beautiful like the ones in WV. Sorry I can't be much help. My son did teach at Kent State
30 some years ago, so I did go there often. Take a week end and investigate.

Do a search through this site. I know there is a thread all about Kent that's really informative. I'm a grad student there now and live in Akron. Kent is a pretty run-down ugly place. Some of the surrounding towns such as Stow and Hudson are nice, though. Really it just depends on what you're looking for. I chose to live in Akron because it's a great location... close to stores/restaurants/bars/the towpath. There are also lots of great parks and beautiful hills and trees. You don't get much of that in Kent.

I 100% disagree with your statement that Kent is "run-down" and "ugly". Kent not only has historic areas but state of the art buildings being constructed for some of the best college programs in the country.

Kent is a beautiful city. Where does that guy get ugly and run-down from? lol. Kent is actually slightly hilly, it is close to Cuyahoga Nat'l Park with the Cuyahoga River running through town. In recent years many new renovations have went on throughout the city like the Heritage Park project. Kent is doing really well with the university in town. Some of the surrounding towns are also very nice. The downtown area has some very nice historic buildings with some new modern buildings in there.

No mountains, no hills. A cute little downtown. Politically liberal compared to other areas nearby. Near Akron and Cleveland, and a few small ski areas. Near a major medical school. It is quite rural outside of Kent.
