Ohhh - Don as in Don Pusquellic.
I guess Im out of the loop on that stuff. Im not a homeowner nor do I really follow politics, so I couldnt say either way if he was good or bad. Don't know the specifics and Im not directly effected by city problems others than having to pay taxes and enduring road construction lol!

Highland square will survive the struggle. The homies can scare off the rich little businessmen but there's too rich of a history and too strong of a community in HS for them to take it.

citygirl........have you noticed there isn't a grocery store in HS? thank the "DON" and "little Stevie "
you better get into the loop homeowner or not its your neighborhood.
my opinion is that little Stevie designed a space to small for a grocery to survive in the sq. so that his Fairlawn Acme will reap the business....but as usual I may be wrong!

No you are right. I noticed there is no grocery store. It sucks for the people who need it but I could really care less because I go to Giant Eagle in Fairlawn. And if there is ever an immediate urgency for something, then I just drive down the street to Acme in Wallhaven (I dont go there regularly because i dont care for it - too crowded). When Star market was around, I went inside once. It was old.
Fairlawn Acme? huh? You mean Wallhaven - that is an Akron store.

As for the grocery store situation - I wouldnt say that was the Mayors' doing but I dunno. Yeah, Albrecht was retarded in regards to that. That space is not large enough for a grocery store of any kind/brand. Shame on him. But, I give him props for the buildings that house the new library, Chipotle, Market Path, Georgio's and MetroBurger.

Like I said - I feel bad for the older people and the people who don't have vehicles. In that respect - bad planning on Albrechts' part. Me personally, on the other hand, as much as I hate Fairlawn, I will still drive down there to go to Giant Eagle.

You're talking about a huge area encompassing probably four different neighborhoods.

Overall it's not my favorite though.

Depending on your location you're going from projects to trashy rundown houses to not too bad 1960s ranches.

There are some decent hidden spots on the far south end of Kenmore and Rolling Acres.

citygirl I am showing my age,the area around acme on w.market used to be a part of fairlawn township,Akron swallowed it up years and years ago but anything past walhaven is what I consider fairlawn old habits die hard.
next time you have an emergency jump in the car and drive to the valley and support the small ind. grocers. I read today acme is getting a tax break from N.Canton........little Stevie wrecked the square and he is working on demolishing the south side of market next....Im glad you go to giant eagle show Stevie hes not what he thinks he is!.....but I may be wrong!

O wow that was considered Fairlawn? Weird. Doesnt have the Fairlawn vibe - atleast not now anyway.

What independent grocery stores are in the valley?
The only place I go down that way is Szalays farmers market. Otherwise, I tend to steer clear of the Valley because I don't so much care for it (sry).

As for Acme - I've never really liked it all - any of the locations. So I never go there unless there might be one thing that I need or I just want to make a super quick trip down the street.
