Exclamation Looking for information on schools for students with special needs.

Possibly moving to Akron and would like to know what schools (elementary & middle school) are better for kiddos with special needs. Also, looking for housing information.
Thanks,
D

Hi,

I don't know if you're specifically looking for public, private, ar charter schools-but we've got them all. In Akron, there is a really great charter school (charter=free) called Summit Academy, just for kids with special needs. But its hard to get your kid in once they are at the middle school level, because they don't have extra openings, they just move them up from elementary. There are other Summit Academies around the Cleveland area however. The best private school is the Lawrence Academy-they take smart kids with learning disabilities like ADHD, dyslexia and executive dysfunctions, but not kids whose "primary" diagnosis is autism. That said, they are listed as recipients for the Ohio Autism Scholarship. The tuition is a steep $17,000/year but they offer financial aid to offset 2/3 of that. As for public schools, Wadsorth and Highland are supposed to be good for kids with special needs. I don't know about North or East Akron area schools.

Hope this helps!
