Probably the same amount of people who live in Fairlawn and go hang out in Green.
I agree, for your day to day stuff there's no reason to go to Cleveland. But it's also the same reason why I'll never go to the Wal-Mart on Arlington when there is one in Fairlawn and one in Stow: there's no reason to.
But plenty of people commute between the two. If it's commutable then you're in the same area - a simplistic theory, but really.
Akron-Columbus? No, not commutable. Akron-Youngstown? No, still not communtable. Akron-Cleveland.... yes, commutable. Akron-Canton? Yes again.

thanks for the info and opinions. Addy was 550 Schiller. Just the size, age and style of home we're looking for.
Ethnic mix......guess what I'm saying is it doesn't matter one bit to me what race/color my neighbors are. If there is a sense of community, some amount of pride in their homes...all I care about. And I'm much more comfortable in "real people" areas than manicured, perfect and upper class.
The commute sounds easy, no biggie. Here many people commute 75-100 miles one way.
and I'll take those free tickets too.......! What's the prices for cheap seats to see the Browns?

It's not the race of the people - its the potential crime in the area that I would worry about. If I didn't love diversity, then I wouldnt be living in Highland Square lol so that isn't an issue for me either.
Now, granted, I have never personally lived right there (near Schiller) so I can only give you neighborhood drive-by knowledge and what I know of the area. Maybe check the police blotters? You might even be able to call Akron PD and inquire about the calls made in the area/how often the police visit the surrounding streets, etc.

You know exactly what I mean. There are outliers for everything. But I can guarantee you 99.9% of people in NE OH, short of being paid very, very, very well, are not going to commute to Buffalo.
Nobody is saying that the cities aren't independent. But they do share a metro area. I don't know why that bothers people so much. It is what it is. I don't hear people in St. Paul crapping themselves because they are in the Minneapolis metro area.
Newark is a large city in its own right, in New Jersey, but it is in the NYC metro area. If it was out alone it would be the primary city, but it's not: NYC overshadows it. But no one disputes Newark "being Newark".
That's the way it is here. Akron is Akron, Canton is Canton, and Cleveland is Cleveland. Cleveland is also the primary city in the region. Get over it.

That is a pretty house - I love the woodwork (googled it). And the price is right! Everyone has their own standards, but I guess the point here is that you may have more crime issues if not affecting you personally then at else affecting people in your neighborhood. Of course, the trade off in price may be worth it. Your issues there would lean more towards drugs and property crimes than those of personal safety that would affect you personally. So for a savings of $60,000-$80,000 it may be entirely worth it.
Akron Police Department That link will take you to neighborhood maps by month listing all of the crimes reported. It's a good way to see if you are ok with what does (or doesn't) go on in a particular neighborhood.

Drugs are sold everywhere. Hell - they bust kids in high schools all the time (of course, its all brushed under the rug in some suburban schools). I don't think drugs would be the issue. I can't honestly say that I would want to subject my property to being F'ed up - just to save some money by living in a questionable neighborhood. Are there people that don't care about that?

I guess it depends on what you mean by f'd up. If it's $60 or $80,000 cheaper, the tradeoff may be worth it. By definition if it's a $30,000 house and they completely leveled it he would still be ahead.
And yes drugs do happen everywhere. But they're not slanging rocks on corners on Cleveland-Massillon Road. Check the APD link above and you can see the difference by neighborhood.
