I will admit that I have little experience with children's hospitals other than ACH.
However, as an adult, having been to a regular hospital, Akron Children's Hospital is fantastic.
We have been there a couple times for minor surgery and I really wish that *I* (as an adult) could go there if I needed to go to the hospital.
The staff was beyond friendly and they explained *everything* in a very kid-friendly manner. They give the kids face masks and caps and show how its just the doctors with masks on and nothing to be afraid of. The kids get to try on their own so they can see it's nothing scary.
They also bring out the masks they use for gas-based anesthesia (if it will be used) and let the kids play around with those. They show how they put flavored chapstick-stuff around the inside to make it smell nice.
Those are just some examples. The whole process from beginning to end was as good as I can imagine that a hospital could get. The kids are well in the loop and treated very well, and the doctors (and nurses) are also very friendly to parents before, during, and after surgery.
It's really hard to express other than to say that they seem to have gone all out to make whatever procedure is happening to be as pleasant and non-frightening as possible.
As far as the actual medical capability, everything went smoothly for us with no complications.
Oh and they have a really cool ... I dunno what you would call it. A ball-maze thing? Those automated ones where the ball rolls around and bounces through things and spins around in cups and all that. They have a huuuuge one in the lobby.
We were 100% pleased with our couple visits there. Hope that helps.
