I know Heggy's is still around and I'm pretty sure the Mother Goose Land is still around as well. Not sure about the others though.

Mother Gooseland has been gone for.... 25 years maybe? The only thing left is that concrete whale.

I thought I read something in the Repository a couple of years ago though that they had restored it or done something to try and bring it back.

Guess it was just mentioned as the end of a newly constructed trail over a year ago.

Livingston Furniture...Market Ave., close to 6th St
"Coed"..a dance at the YWCA on Friday nights from 6:30 to 9:30pm, open
to all junior high kids
Clarkins, before it was out on Rt 62, when it was an Army/Navy surplus
store downtown
The Jewish Center when it was on Market Ave, close to 18th St.
The Harter Estate on Market Ave, located where the Canton Art Museum
is now. It was a wonderful Victorian mansion and never should have
been torn down.
The Art Museum and Players Guild when it was on Market Ave. in the Case
mansion. That never should have been torn down either. I think
there is an apartment complex there now.
Vicary's
The thick green glass floors of the main library across from City Hall.
The old, old building at Burns School. It should have been torn down.
Anyone from Canton knows this one. The downtown Arcade Market.
The Vogue Hat Shop on Cleveland Ave...owned by two sisters.
Mercy Hospital and its' School of Nursing. Market Ave. and 9th, site of
Wm. McKinley home, now the library.
Stern and Mann's (yessss !)
Aronold's Funeral Home that looked like a white castle, on Market Ave.
Kobacker's, Bon Marche, Polsky's, O'Neil's
Someone help me on this one..there was a place on Market Ave, around
3rd or 4th, on the east side of the street. The front part of the
building was a jewelry (?) store, maybe Zale's, and way in the back
was another room where they sold records, both albums and 45's.
There were little booths that customers could use to listen to the
recordings.
Harry's Nut House on Tusc.
And
The Quonset Hut on Cleveland..Best Hippie shop in the nation.
I am really homesick now.

Weber Dental is the one with the tower, right? I think that burned but the building/tower is still there.

I remember when Stern & Mann's closed... that was, what, early 90s?

I always wanted to go to Mother Goose Land when I lived in Canton, never did. I did go to the old Meyer's Lake amusement park before it closed.

I remember the Ohio Theater, they showed "The Swinging Stewardess's" soft porn movie when I was 15......don't ask me how I know.

I rememeber the old art museum, there was also an apartment building across the street from it (or nearly so) that it seemed to take a decade to finish. I remember O'Neils, Penny's and Sears when they was downtown. I remember Maggories Drive thru, can't recall the location. My dad would get his beer there. Every week or two he would return the case of the old beer bottles, and get a new case of Stroh's. I remember the hospital across the street from the old (and real) McKinley High School. I spent many hours in the old library downtown.

I remember the burlesque theater on East Tusc - never was old enough to get in so I missed out on seeing "Miss Wow-Wow" perform.

Islay's on Cleveland and 12th, mom would take me for lunch there. I remember a HOF parade around 1979 when my idol Jim Brown was there, gosh he was all muscle years after he retired.

Wasn't there a fast-food hamburger place near Harrisburg Rd and Atlantic Blvd called PDQs?

Good memories, I wish I took photos back then.

To Bornthere. I was born in Canton as well (Mercy Hospital in 1951), moved away when I was 8, but my family had been there since the 20's. My mom and dad were both actively involved in the Player's Guild from the mid 40's until we moved in 1959. My dad also worked at Roger's Jeweler's downtown. My uncles still live there, and owned Dickson's Haberdashery, also downtown. I went to Woodland Avenue Elementary, as did my mother and grandmother. I wonder is it's still there. We lived on Harvard Avenue and 17th St. and my grandparents lived on 13th and 8th NW. I remember going to Taggarts for ice cream as a kid, and going shopping at Kobacker's, where they had the best Christmas display windows ever. I haven't lived in Canton in 50 years, but I miss it terribly. Life was very simple back then, but maybe Canton has gone the way of the rest of small town America, and has gang problems and crime just like we do here in Houston. Anyway, thanks for the good memories.
