Default Anyone know anything about firestone?

I'm looking to buy a house in firestone, to be exact 1573 redwood drive. Can someone tell me about the neighborhood? Saftey? The house is selling for 69,000 just throwing it out there. I dont plan on staying in the house longer than 5-8 years because i will be finishing school/med school. Would you reccomed this area? Or look in other parts of akron? I go to akron u. and am a first time home buyer with a 75k budget to work with.

Firestone Park.

Generally if you're south of Wilbeth - which that house is - you're good. I'm preferential to the NW end of Akron but if I was going to live on the south side I'd probably move in that area. Many of the houses are nice. Firestone the park is nice, and it's walkable with a new library, YMCA branch, and neighborhood stores. The further north you go the ****tier it gets, and it's pretty much all downhill once you hit Archwood, if not before. You probably don't care too much about schools, although I believe Firestone Park elementary school is still pretty good. Roswell-Kent Middle School and Garfield HS are ehhh though.

There are a bunch of chain stores on Waterloo which is relatively close to that area, including a Giant Eagle, Papa John's, Blockbuster, Burger King, gas stations, etc.

Crime shouldn't be too much of an issue south of Wilbeth. Again, the further north you go the crappier it gets. Also, across the expressway there is a large public housing project and Arlington Road is crappy. But that shouldn't affect you unless you go hang out over there.

Hope that helps.

If you are looking in other neighborhoods as well, I'm sure you've seen many of us are fond of the neighborhoods in Northwest Akron, like Highland Square, Wallhaven, Northwest, Merriman Valley, etc. I personally think your instance of college graduates is going to be higher that way as opposed to in Firestone Park if you're looking for like-minded individuals.
$75,000 is a little harder to work with but you could turn up a few here and there.

You could also check Ellet as well if you just want an inexpensive but safe neighborhood.

Alright thanks. I am looking at a house in ellet on mogadore rd. I just dont know which is the better way to go...ellet or firestone? With the firestone being surrounded by a bad neighborhood so close i would think it would make it's way into the part of firestone i'm looking in? Or has it always been a better part of firestone?

Thanks a lot, this is a huge help.
