Question Relocating to akron, wooster, canton area in 2011

I will be working in Orrville and am starting my research of the surrounding areas. We both have spent all of our lives in the south west ohio areas. Uppermost in our minds is developing a support network for my wife if I have to travel. She can care for herself on a limited basis but since our adult children will not be moving with us our support network will be gone..... I would like to investigate alternatives if needed.
We have enjoyed small town living in the past and choosing one with a good senior oriented community center with the ability to help if needed is important to us. Of course we would consider a private resourse if necessary. This will impact the areas and communities we will begin our home search.

Any information or advice people have on small towns near Orrville, housing, area info, and strength of community services would be appreciated. All opinions positive and negative are also appreciated since we are learning about NE Ohio.

thanks

Orrville *is* the small town.

I think generally speaking that most of the small towns out that way are considered to be safe and affordable.

Somewhat generic response but I would imagine if you're coming from SW Ohio it wouldn't be too far off, you'll just be closer to cities and amenities. Oh, and people don't have the accents.

If you are saying you want a town where there are senior activities and programs, I suggest you look at Wadsworth. If you are saying you need good medical facilities then Wooster has branches of Cleveland Clinic.

If you're looking for a place with community activities and a lot of senior-focused activities, Wooster may be a good choice for you. It is a nice small town (that in my opinion is much nicer and has a lot more options for activities than does Orrville, which although I never lived there I visited a lot as my doctor's office was in Orrville, and I always found it to be a rather dirty, depressing little town). They also have the College of Wooster, which has a program for seniors to audit college classes for fun, that I believe is free of charge (or at least very reasonably priced). Also, the YMCA has multiple branches in Wooster that offer a lot of classes and activities aimed at seniors. I suppose I'm a little biased towards Wooster as I grew up there and my family still lives there, but I think it's a great little town.

Judging from your post, I would also say Wooster. There are some good, country like sections on the outer edges and the medical is fine.

Wooster is a nice small town area with good selection of shopping, restraunts, and other hometown benefits. There is a new condo community close to the north end that has maintenance free benefits along with a clubhouse. It is offered by Weaver Custom Homes, i belive they also have single family communities in Wooster city.
