possible move to akron-please suggest
Hello
thanks in advance for any suggestions and input offered. We are looking to possibly move to akron, OH or Dallas, TX.
Of course our move will depend a lot on the job we get in both these places.
However, the other factors listed below are important in our consideration, so any relevant information offered on this will be helpful:
-cost of living
-we are looking for a city and state where diversity and liberal attitudes are vibrant
closeaccess to nature including mountians and lakes or even better if possible beaches
and connectivity for travel ease (close to major airports)
Thanks!

re: Akron
I live in a studio apartment in the Highland Square neighborhood of Akron, so to me, cost of living is pretty cheap. I'm sure there are others on this forum who own homes that can give you a better idea of that....
As for diversity and open-mindedness - that is why I love living in Akron - and especially in Highland Square. All ages, shapes, sizes, colors and lifestyle choices are welcome in Highland Square.
There are no mountains nearby unless you start heading south towards West Virginia and that takes a good amount of time.
Portage Lakes is about 15-20 mins south of the city and Lake Erie (bordering the northern edge of Ohio) is about 45 minutes north. Most of the beaches are relatively small altho there are quite a few along Lake Erie in different spots.
Akron Canton Airport is 20 minutes south (of Akron) and is awesome! I try to use it for every trip because its so close and its never crazy crowded. As an alternate, Cleveland Hopkins is 50 minutes away in Brook Park.

Huntington Beach Park right near the Headlands Beach State Park (between Mentor and Painesville) is really nice - you can even rent canoes there!

Can't have crime if there are no people!
Actually that post is misleading as well, the little cities they do have have bad neighborhoods like anywhere else - commensurate to their size, of course.

Dallas, hands down. Although I wouldn't choose to live in either city, when comparing the two it isn't even close. I'd suggest Austin over Dallas, if that's an option for you...
