Default Akron Services Advice Needed

Wondering if someone could recommend....

1) A quality mechanic in the Cuyahoga Falls area. I would rather not go to a dealer, just need a tune up / oil change on an older Jeep.

2) A good dentist in the Akron area.

3) How to prevent the RUST I see on every third car here...I have a garage, so I won't be parking outside, but I definitely will take advice on how to stop my car from looking like some of the rustbuckets I've seen so far.

Thanks!!!

1.) I know of several mechanics that I have been satisfied with, but they are all in West and Central Akron. Let me know if you want the info.

In the Falls I know Hamad's on State Road has good prices on tires and some maintenance items - i.e. alignments. Their alignments, for example, are something like $50 which is about as cheap as they get.

2.) Although I'm not usually a fan of chain doctors/dentists/auto mechanics (ha), the dentist at Dentalworks in Fairlawn is pretty good. Aside from being competent (as far as my untrained teeth can tell), the facility is nice and new, he doesn't try to gouge you on getting services done (i.e. if a procedure would be good to do but isn't something immediately necessary he'll tell you), and he has a really good personality and sense of humor, which I think makes the visit much more pleasant.

3.) Parking outside isn't going to really matter as far as rust goes. It mainly arises from the salt they use to melt snow and ice on the roads. If you want to avoid rust, wax the crap out of your car in the fall, go to a *real* car wash (not a gas station car wash) every week or two in the winter and be absolutely sure to get the undercarriage wash, and never never never let a chip or scratch in the paint sit bare.

Those things being said, it takes a long time for a car to rust to the point you're referring to - i.e. years. I think the most essential part is to make sure you wash the undercarriage of the car. IMOthe spots that get it (salt) the most are where the panels come together near the wheel wells of the car and it will cause the panels to eventually rust from the inside. Dirt and salt spin off the tires, catch on the lips of the panels, and sit.

Depending on how long you have your car and you don't drive around missing paint you're talking at least 5 or 6 years before you start seeing rust spots.

Hope that info helped you a little.

what rust.......they're made of plastic.......but h.s. is right wash the under carriage and the wheel wells, I dont think salt works under 17 degree's (not sure about that?) so if its really cold it wont hurt the metal but when its in the mid 20's it is eating away......
