Hello everybody and Merry Xmas. I am a new student at the U of A, I am from Europe and I already had to study in Michigan (Saginaw for those who may know the area). How is Ohio different from Michigan, and how is life in Akron in general? I don't drive so I will have to use public transportations.
Thanks

Despite what people may say, Michigan and Ohio are very similar. I don't think you will have much difficulty adjusting.

I haven't been to Saginaw but looking it up Akron (and Cleveland-Akron-Canton in general) is a larger area, more like the Detroit-Ann Arbor corridor. If you use public transportation in Saginaw I can only imagine the Akron Metro (bus) would be an improvement. It runs regularly by the University and you can get to all the major shopping areas via it. They also run several express trips to downtown Cleveland where you can link with the RTA (bus/rapid) up there, and also to surrounding cities like Canton and Kent where you can transfer to their buses as well. And there are also multiple taxi companies in the city and will take you anywhere, anytime.

And as far as life in Akron/Northeast Ohio, if you're familiar with Detroit, just clean it up a little bit, cut the amount of strip clubs and liquor stores in half, and there you have it.

Also, depending on how close to campus you live there is bunch of university run buses that you can take to and from class.....for FREE.

Here's the link for the routes. When you look for houses to rent you can check this out and see if they are close to pick up locations!

Happy New Yeat and thanks for the informations. I was living in central michigan, close to the cornfields. So I guess Akron will be appearing huge comparing to this. I am looking forward to liking Akron and its area

One thing I love about the Akron area is that (if you rent a car or befriend someone with a car) you can be in the country in only a few minutes. A half hour to a farm to pick your own sun-ripened strawberries, then back to town, all in a morning.
