what didn't you understand, i did not say the city was hiring illegal aliens to do the work. i said that illegal aliens came to Akron and undercut the local roofers the city didnt have anything to do with the illegal workers getting hired.
then the dont leave, one friend who was a roofer for a company that has "family roofers " in their name told him after 17 years that he could hire the illegals for half of what he was paying him and he had to let him go.....with the little work Akron has these illegal aliens aren't helping Akron, and neither are the residents who hire them. i would have it written into my contract only legal residents work on my house! but I may be wrong.....

Well, thank you for clarifying that. Because this is not a political forum, I won't go deeply into this subject, but it has always been the norm that people/companies look to pay the cheapest wages for work performed. The attraction to illegal immigrants is jobs. Legal immigrants came to the U.S. for jobs and the opportunity for a better life in the past. My family came to the U.S. in the 1960's, legally that is. They worked very hard, physical labor jobs for low mininum wages. They were never highly-paid union workers with the union mentality that comes with it, so please excuse me if my heart doesn't bleed. There are 50-55 year old white-collar workers who are being displaced permanently because a company can get rid of them and hire someone just coming out of school for half the wage, with less benefits, less vacation, less sick time, etc., - AND THEY DO. I got out of the corporate rat race because I got sick of seeing actions made based on the bottom line (was in public accounting). I don't know what to tell you, my friend, except that it's called "capitalism" and it's about money. Illegal workers are looking for work and are willing to work for less than the legal workers. If the legal workers are willing to work for wages as low as the illegal workers, they would get the roofing jobs. We could go on and on about this. We shop at the mega-lo marts of the world, we purchase items that were manufactured in third-world countries (developing nations for the PC). We're all looking for premium goods at bargain prices. Who wants to pay more??? We say that we do, but do we really? Can we afford to pay more? This is a deeper subject than just saying that illegal workers are the devil and are the cause of all of our problems. There are deeper issues here.

Who is holding a gun to the heads of companies or individuals forcing them to hire illegal/undocumented workers? Companies and individuals want cheap/cheaper labor costs. As long as there are jobs here, people will come streaming in, legally or not. Who is forcing American companies to import foreign workers on visas? Not enough qualified/educated American workers to fill professional jobs? I doubt that this is true. The rules of yesteryear have changed. In my opinion, it's all about the bottom financial line.

The Green Area is a great location also. It was rated in the top 50 areas to raise a family in the US just a few months ago. It is located minutes from both Akron and Canton, giving you the shopping and dining you are looking for. I lived in Stow and North Canton, and I find that the Green area is exactly what I was looking for, for my family. Great schools in an area the is not full of snobs with great neighbors surrounding us. My husband and I have made incredible friends in the short two years we have been living here. I would recommend Green to anyone. Failawn and Hudson are beautiful areas also, but are very expensive. A good realtor will be able to fill in the blanks for you. Good luck on your search, who knows, maybe someone on this forum may end being your new neighbor!
