My husband is being transferred to Montgomery. We are a mixed race couple (black & white) who currently live in South Florida with our 23 month old son. I've never been to Alabama before and am a little nervous about how accepting of mixed race couples people are up there. Does anyone have any advice? We were thinking of looking in Prattville as we've heard that they have the best public schools.

Thanks!

Hi! I am from Prattville and the schools there are the best in the area. I may be a little biased but I'm sure you can get information online about it as well. As far as being a mixed couple, I don't think that would be a big issue. There are a lot of mixed couples in the area. I also have a two year old and we moved to Auburn and I miss being in the Prattville/Montgomery area because there were more things for her to do there.

Welcome to Montgomery! We seriously need a new forum just for Montgomery!

I live in East Montgomery, and there's a good amount of diversity around this part of the city. Private schools seem to be more prominent down here though.
I do agree that Prattville has the best public schools. Again, welcome, and I hope it's a smooth transfer of cities!

Hi, I'm not from Mont, but went to school there and am familiar with it and from what I'm hearing lots of ppl are moving out of Montgomery into Prattville and schools are one reason. Lots of new development there. I would also think you'd be fine as a mixed couple there. Not everyone in AL is a backward thinking redneck, although you might encounter some stares in the smaller towns...but I think in the larger cities and suburbs like Prattville you will be comfortable for sure. Good luck to you!
