Default Just Relocated from Florida to Sand Rock

My husband and I just relocated to Sand Rock from the north Florida area (Steinhatchee). We are native Floridians who got tired of our over-taxed, over-crowded home state. We fell in love with this area and decided that now was the time to relocate if we were ever going to. I am currently in the market for a teaching job. We would love to hear from any other Floridians who have relocated to the area.

We are from Punta Gorda, in southwest Fl - moved to Slocomb, AL and about 5 or 6 mile from the FL/AL line, and have no idea where you are located, seems Southlander is confused as well.

We would like to meet anyone from FL, or just meet anyone period as far as that goes.

Well forget that, looks like you are way up north near Ft Payne............

I moved to Arab from Tampa in Oct 05. Arab is a little north of where you are located, south of Huntsville. I hope you like it here as much as I do. Steinhatchee is a nice area but I am sure the insurance alone was a hardship. Tampa is just plain big with too much crime and the traffic was horrible. It does get colder here but I have enjoyed having a change of seasons. My daughter moved up here first and I followed. I have finally met some people but it was hard at first, not that the people weren't friendly just finding someone you have something in common with was the hard part.
I was just down your way last week to pick up a dog from the SPCA in Ft Payne.
I do miss being able to get grouper at Publix, although they do have Publix in Huntsville they don't carry fresh grouper, darn it.

Hello,

We are also from Florida, actually still in Florida, near Pensacola. My family and I are looking to move up to the Lewis Smith Lake area. My wife is a teacher and would also be looking for a job. Any information about this area would be great.

I live not far from Sand Rock. Originally from Florida but, also lived in Alabama some when younger (my biological father lives nearby me here and retired at Ft McClellean before it closed).
I am in the Talladega area and love it. The people are always friendly and helpful and Oxford/Anniston has everything you want from shopping to Entertainment, etc., etc... and I am actually between B'Ham and Oxford/Anniston and just below Tenn border so very centrally located and within 30min to an hour of a lot of family attractions, etc...
I am retired early due to sustained injuries from serving in Iraq that no longer permit me to work so, I wanted a beautiful and friendly place not too high on the economical list for cost of living, etc. and Alabama has it all !!
Been here approx. 9 mo's now after living in several areas off and on and as a child and adult (between military service) in areas of Florida (Southern/Space coast/Treasure coast/Central/and N Fla near Suwannee River area and. to compare Alabama with all over Florida for all reasons other than missing loved ones is AMAZING! So far.....Soooooo much nicer!
* Plus....You an actually afford to go on a vacation living here in Alabama when most Floridians can no longer even afford to take their children/grand children out to dinner much less to Disney once a year. I only pray Alabama for most areas will NEVER grow into what Florida has become!!

I lived in Tampa for ten years back in the middle seventies, now live not to far from Rainbow City, Alabama. My wife and I go up to Fort Desoto State Park and hike all the time during the fall and early winter months...plus camp up that way a lot also. Florida was just too dang hot and crowded and the cost of living was very high. I was born in Gadsden, but grew up over in the Atlanta area........Bama is the best . Keep smiling....

Native Floridian here, I lived my whole life in the Daytona Beach area and Tallahassee before moving my family to Alabama, and I LOVE IT, though I'm just barely over the state line. Lord willing, I plan on being buried here in the Heart of Dixie (though hopefully that's a long way off).
