Anniston: possible move, quick questions
Anyone have a suggestion on where I could focus my search for homes on larger lots (5+ acres)?
I know I may have to buy land and build, but I was hoping for some ideas in advance.
Schools are not an issue. Proximity to malls, stores, etc, is not an issue. I'd like to get within 25 -30 miles of Anniston and stay in the 200s. If that's not realistic, let me know. I searched some other threads, but it seems many are most concerned with schools.
I'm just doing some "what-if" planning along with my job hunting.
Thanks.

What line of work are you in? What are you looking for?
200k for the land?

I'd be happy to find a 3BR sitting on a piece of land 5 acres or larger.
I'm not looking for something fancy. I don't know the market there, but I'd like to stay 200-250K total.
I haven't had time to look around the Anniston area yet, and I'm just wondering if there's an area around there where this type of home/land is common. From what I've found online so far, it's the standard suburbia type area. I need to expand my search.....

I went there myself this week.
Nice area. If I end up heading that way, I think I found a few nice places/areas.
I found one place with land for sale near Jacksonville. I found a really nice suburban-type neighborhood where McClellan military housing was remodeled or rebuilt. It seems the market in the Anniston/Oxford area is still strong. I guess I'll find out if the pricing is soft should I actually move down there.
I hope yall get some rain!

Sorry for the delay in replying. I live just outside of Anniston. McClellan is OK, but I'd be a little leary there. The city has too much control in future development there. If you want land, I'd suggest you look a little further out. You could get the housing/land you want, in your budget in Alexandria, Coldwater, White Plains (prob. on the high end of your budget, but up and coming), or go a little further to Heflin (about 30-35 miles but a nice quiet town with very reasonable prices).
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

I will look down Heflin way if I do get the job. The lots on McClellan are tiny, and I'm sure, at least in the "historic" part you have lots of rules. It's going to be a trade off really. If we move there, I'll make the common choices everyone faces, ---- little land and breathing room or minutes from work.
I was just surprised what they'd done with the place.
