There are Piggly Wiggly or the pig as it is know around here, Foodland, discount warehouse, and Southern Family Markets just to name a few. Publix stores in Huntsville. The Pig and Foodland are similar to winn dixie.
There really isn't any restrictions on the number of animals if you live in the county. I have met people here who have 26 dogs that live in the county. It sounds like you are living in the county not the city. They don't really have an animal control officer for Marshall county. There are several dog breeders and rescue orgs in the county. If you are living in the county you should have no problems. In the city you can't have dogs that bark or howl all the time so that you bother your neighbors, there is no such ordinance in the county.
Vets up here are inexpensive compared to Tpa. You have to get a rabies every year. That is the only requirement. They are talking about getting a register tag for animals in order to pay for animal control for the county. That may or may not happen. I have 6 dogs and I live in the city of Arab on a 3/4 acre lot

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you so much Keeper. I am familair with Piggly, that's always our first stop when we go to a dog show in SC lol.
I presently have 23 dogs, and yes it is out in the country but the neighbors are pretty close that's why I worried.
You mean you don't need a tag yet, just the rabies? That alone will save me a bunch at $35 a dog what I have to pay the county now. I have been very lucky with vets, not only is mine not expensive compared to a lot of them in Tampa area but whenever I need rabies shots for 5 or more he makes house calls, same with emergencies. That's the only thing I know I will miss when we leave, my vet.

I will check with a friend of mine in Guntersville who has several dogs for a vet plus I will call my vet and ask them to suggest someone there. I will PM you with the names.
As far as your concerns about noise and your dogs, I would suggest you call the Marshall county courthouse if your place is in the county and ask for the ordinance officer. He should be able to tell you. Here animal control only deals with strays, abandoned, sick or animals that are loose. If someone complains about dogs barking, it is the police who come to the house. As I stated earlier if you do not live within the city limits you have little to worry about as far as noise complaints and I doubt you live in the city if you have 30 acres of land.

Check here for you and your husband https://joblink.alabama.gov/ada/
Looked like there were some jobs that paid better than others but remember the cost of housing is probably lower here. Hope this helps

Default albertville

anyone considering moving here should really drive down highway 431 to make sure you can handle the sewage smell. the city has spent millions trying to fix the smell but we're still driving to boaz or guntersville when we go out to eat or shop. it's also really embarrassing living in a town that smells like a giant turd when family/friends visit.

Decatur has had the same problem. Turned out one of the industries here (I THINK it was the local chicken processing plant) was overloading the system with sewage that was taking up all the oxygen. Local industries are required to treat their effluent to a certain standard before sending it to the sewage treatment plant, and they were not doing that. They are now, or attempting to, and it has helped. Funny thing - nothing was done until the magnet school moved to the school building across the street from the plant.

Default Howdy

we have spent time in G'Ville and Arab- like them both- very small town with nice people. gets colder than expected in winter- which is the main thing keeping us from moving now. I like shorts and a tee shirt in the middle of january.

p.s.- to ratchaser.. Don't breed or buy while shelter animals die..

let us all do what we can to reduce the suffering of children and animals..

no I am not a wacky tree hugger-

Although I love a lot of its residents, I would personally stay out of the Gadsden area. I have never seen a city whose economy fluctuates as much as that one.

Any where north is probably better, IMO.
