Southpaw, I've never lived in Ider, but I know the area and it is a great place to live if you are not into the hustle and bustle. The people are friendly and you will likely find them to be welcoming. I hope some residents of the area find this thread soon and give you more specifics.

thanks for your reply. i've been looking for mayberry lol. i'm a fla native and not proud of this place no more, it used to be a small fishing villlage where i'm from, but things have changed so much. the people here are mean and hateful, i guess that is what concrete does to you lol, it's hard to find a good church, i take care of my elderly mom and can't always go with the grandkids, they have come home with bruises and red marks from the van driver, to me that is abuse. the kids no longer go to that church. we have prowlers at night and were told by the local sheriff office not to call unless we were being killed, if you have a house fire you call 911 and they will send a deputy out with in an hour then if needed ,then they will then call the fire dept. our local schools are full of rapes, drugs, and violence. see why we want out.we want a safe environment to live and raise the kids ,for them to know there are nice people in this crazy mixed up world

wow, Southpaw....
I can see why you want out of that place. I think you will find any community on Sand Mountain to be a welcome change from that environment. Good luck to you and yours!

About Ider
I was brought up in Ider and went to Ider school,it is a good place to live and if you like to fish you can always find someone who will let you fish in their pond and it is also not a long way to the tennesee river. There is not alot to do in Ider, one or two banks, one grocery store,a couple of resturants.Fort Payne is not but about 15 miles away with your Wal Mart and other bigger stores, movie theatres etc. and there is a nice drive in theatre down the road a few miles in Henager Al.Hope this helps.
