Possible re-location to Auburn
My wife and I might be moving to Auburn for a new job. Where are the best places to live in the area?

auburn is a very diverse place. the best location really depends on your price range and what type of neighborhood you would like to live in.

Glenn, college street, gay street etc.
Auburn has some very nice apartments and reasonable rates for them due to large student population. You want to leave near where all students live or little away from student parties and noises ?
Glenn and college streets have nice apartments , so does Gay Street. Closer to university are where many students live, especially undergrad. So those areas would be party, fun and lots of noise over the weekend. If you like those then its fine.
On same streets moving away from university would be more like family, grad students areas. Lively, but less noise and wild parties.
There are many other areas I can think of, off of opelika road near post office, near wall-mart where college street apartments are , lots of choices. Many places to rent some house also. Best would be to pick up an apartment guide and call those people.

We would be looking to rent away from the school and the noise. Would be looking for a family type of neighborhood. We would be willing to pay around 800 a month for rent. Not sure what that will get us.

How set are you on living in Auburn? I live about 20 some odd miles to the east of Auburn in Valley, Alabama. Right on the state line and one of the few places in Alabama on the eastern time zone. Nice, quiet neighborhoods and nice schools. I moved here from North Alabama to teach and I really enjoy it here. Many people commute from here to Auburn.

We are not sure where to live, thats why we are asking for advice. It's hard to tell from over the internet but it's a good starting point.

$800 /month is a good bit of money for Auburn like place. You can just buy a decent house away from university and your mortgage would be around $800 or less. That's a better deal than apartment.
Anyway, if you do like to stay in apartment, just get an apartment guide for Auburn, available at any gas station/online etc. and go visit places yourself. you would find lots of nice places for your budget.

We wanted to rent at first to make sure that the job and the area is right for us. We wanted to rent a house, not an apartment. A house would have more privacy. Thank's for the help.
