Yes, but nothing like the ATL. Birmingham still operates on some kind of human scale. It is quite possible to get from one corner of the city to the other in less than an hour. In Atlanta, that's pretty much impossible.

I won't say that I don't like it here. I guess I'm more or less trying to find out what the state is about these days. I know it's an interesting place with a lot of history, but perhaps I wonder if the residents, new and old, take a lot of pride in it, as much as where they lived before. I also kind of want to find out about other places, attitudes, and perceptions.

Yes, I'm planning to, but this was just to find out more about the place I live now. What makes it different? Where's the good, the bad, the ugly? If it's appealing to people from other states, which I hope it is, why? It's helpful to get a fresh perspective, but I guess you've answered a lot of my questions already. Thanks, and continue to comment if you want. Thanks again for the bit of insight you've given me.

Atlanta city limits 132.4 sq mi

Birmingham city limits 151.9 sq mi

There is no way it would take longer to traverse Atlanta given those numbers even its it rush hour. Now if you are trying to cross the metro area , which most people probably aren't doing unless they choose to then of course it would take longer since it has a larger metro both physically and population wise just like any major sun belt city..
