Question Jacksonville

I am from AZ and interested to purchase a small mobile home park in Jacksonville, AL. I would like to learn more about this city and surrounding areas. Particularly, type of neighborhood. growth, job, population growth and crime rate, or any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advanced.

Default Work in this area

I work in Jacksonville. Picture a small town with a University in the middle of it. Jacksonville State University appears to be growing quickly. There are several trailor parks on the outskirts of town. Good luck with your decision. You will have plenty of college kids moving in soon.

markdalton will become famous soon enough
I attended JSU and quite frankly, I found the town of Jacksonvilleto be quite boring. It's not a bad town, but it doesn't look and feel like a college town. It's more like a small town with a college propped in the middle of it. I believe the crime rate is pretty low, but remember there many young adults acting like young adults. As for trailers, I remember seeing quite a few on the outskirts of town.

As for the surrounding area, the main city is Anniston, which has seen better days. Most of crime in Calhoun County occurs in Anniston city limits. But it is a busy little city, as the county seat and two hospitals are located there. Oxford is booming, as many former Anniston residents are moving there. There are also many restaurants and modern shopping centers in Oxford as well. After I graduated from JSU, I moved to Oxford and loved it.

Alexandria is an unincorporated community north of Anniston. Alot of growth is occuring out that way as well. It has a rural feel to it and is convienent to Gadsden.

I don't know if you are aware of this, but Anniston used to be home to Fort McClellan, but it shut down several years ago. As a result, the area around the Fort suffered and till this day, has not fully recovered. Also, Jacksonville was affected too, as many Fort employees lived in Jacksonville. Jacksonville also lost some textile jobs in the process too. But Jacksonville did rebound and is finally growing again.

I' ve lived here 15 years and still am considered an interloper. Other than that the people are friendly, the shcools above average and the college keeps it interesting. There will be no new trailer parks in jacksonville city limits. Plenty of opportunity outside.
