I guess there was plenty of land available back in 1791 too. Regardless, the 5th Amendment still got passed...

Ok I get that some people might misunderstand this thread its not about how i feel i need compensation because i definitely do not it was however to discuss how people felt about the necessity to spur of the moment move your whole family leaving the lives you had the land you farmed from child hood that kind of thing. Not to say oh my god the government... I love our country i'm a veteran damn it if you aren't posting about what i asked for don't post thank you.

You asked about eminent domain. Eminent domain protects individual freedoms by requiring just compensation from the government. Around here, just last year some families were forced to sell their land for a new school. Many families were dislocated in WW2 to create Redstone Arsenal. Families were dislocated in the 1930s when TVA dammed the river. In the Spanish-American War several families were dislocated at Cavalry Hill.

Yes, there is a human element. That's why it was so revolutionary to compensate the dislocated - for example in China even now the govt will flood land without regard to the people living there.
