Ok. I really really really need help. I'm glad I've come across this thread. I'm a college kid whose medical/health insurance has run out. I have bad sinus/allergy problems, and now, my upper spinal region is hurting as if I was bruised. Could somebody please tell me about any FREE medical insurance that I can get?

An unfortunate situation.
As a student, you generally are required to have insurance. You should go to the financial aid office to check out your options to help you purchase health insurance. You also might check the county health clinic to help with that issue, but I doubt they help with this kind of stuff here. Have you tried over-the counter remedies? Loratidine works pretty well for many.

No, I haven't. I just need some insurance. I have the school insurance, but I can use that at the REAL doctor.

The school clinic does not address allergies and sinus infections?
The UAB school and family clinics have some good doctors. The school insurance doesn't cover a whole lot of prescription cost, but it does cover some. Have you checked with the school clinic yet?

I really need because I'm going to be at home this summer, and if I get sinus infections, I will have to go to the local hospital.

Oh I see. Home is far from Huntsville? Perhaps you could visit the clinic and work out a supply of prescriptions that last you the summer that might be covered. I think the key is to visit the doc now while you are at school (if you haven't left yet), and if a prescription is required, call the insurance company and see if they would be willing to give you enough to tide you over the summer. I know UAB Viva uses caremark/CVS, which has a mail-order service that delivers 3-month supplies by default.

There is no "free" insurance that I am aware of. You might consider looking at what insurances would cost for you, and then you can get a waiver from paying the school's insurance fees. In select major cities, if you are a resident the health care to all can be quite good, but I'm guessing that doesn't apply to your home.

Thanks. See, I was on AllKids and Medicaid; they both stopped working by 19.
