Default moving to Opelika

I may be moving to opelika from washington dc metro area. Can anyone tell me about this city both possitive and negative aspects of living in this city. I have a 7 yr old son, is this a family friendly city? I will miss the cultural aspect of dc. If I want indian food there's plenty of resturants around. I thinking I will not have access to resturants like that in too many places in alabama. Then again I have never been to alabama and wouldn't know what is available, that is why I need help from you all.

Welcome to AL. What brings you to Opelika?

You may want to use the search mode. Someone recently posted information about Indian restaurants and stores in Birmingham which is a short trip from Opelika on 280.

I remember dealing with a number of Indian professionals during my time in Columbus GA. You will probably find restaurants and stores there. It is a few minutes from Opelika.

Default Moving to Opelika

I am recently divorced and want to leave the dc metro area and start over. My mother is going to move with my son and I. Her coworkers are from opelika and said that its a good place to live and cost of living is so much less than where I am now. One coworker offered her to stay in her place, free of rent untill we decide where we want to settle. I am not indian I just enjoy resturants from other countries. Where I live you have to work very hard and long to get ahead becasue everything is so expensive and I want to enjoy life.

Default buy your own curry

I am not from there, so there COULD be Indian resturants around. The closest will probably be Montgomery or Atlanta. Columbus Ga probably has one, and that's not too far away. Spice R Us.
I live in Birmingham. Taj India is the best.
Does your son like golf? Grand National is a site on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.

You will be surprised by the diversity of restaurants and shopping between Columbus, GA/Phenix City, AL, Opelika, AL, Auburn, AL and Birmingham, AL.

i know there is an indian diner on donahue in auburn, just one block from campus. i'm not too sure of any other indian restaurants in the area, but tiger town in auburn is growing rapidly and another shopping center is opening up in the area so it is likely there will be indian dining. if you like mexican food, however, there are plenty of places to eat; durango's is my favorite (and it's never busy there). you will have to go eat at niffer's place at least once. you will fall in love with their burgers. i'll be visiting my family in birmingham around christmas time and i plan on making a trip to opelika just to get a big niff.
opelika has a great hospital, plenty of dining, is close to auburn (you'll become an auburn fan, too), and has some nice neighborhoods. of course it has some sketchy neighborhoods, but all places do. also, opelika is far enough away from the university that you won't have fratboy neighbors or have to deal with all of the college traffic, etc. but you get all of the shopping, dining, and atmosphere being so close.

Auburn and Auburn University is next door to Opelika. AU has a new art museum, and of course concerts and plays by the students, so you'll find a good bit of culture there. And you'll have to learn about football!
