Default community college near Auburn

We are preparing to relocate to Auburn and one of our kids will be needing to transfer to a community college. Is anyone familiar with Southern Union in Opelika? We've heard (from 1 person) that it's a magnet for drugs and dope heads. Is this accurate or is it typical for what's going to be going on at most college campuses?

The Opelika Campus is located only 6 miles from Auburn University on Lafayette Parkway at the intersection of U.S. Highways 431 and 29. It's on the move with several new, ultra-modern facilities. A full range of two-year programs in the technical and health-science divisions are available, as well as academic and health sciences offerings to fulfill virtually every transfer requirement.

I don't think Southern Union is any worse than any other junior college. I know a few kids that weren't smart enough to get into Auburn, but they were smart enough to convince their parents to let them enroll at Southern Union and live in Auburn. They tell everybody they're going to Auburn...they just don't say they mean the town, not the college.

Southern is nice, I go to college in Auburn. Most people who go to Southern live in Auburn, and eventually try to transfer to Auburn.

In any place the population of people who do illegal drugs is going to be much less than those who don't. Unless your son is seeking them out, there probably won't be much interaction.

Potheads don't tend to cause much crime as they're lazy.
