Default Public schools in and around Auburn?

My husband and son and I are considering moving to the Auburn area from Anniston. I've heard good things about Auburn city schools, but am curious about schools in the surrounding areas including Chambers co. Any info?

I would strongly recommend the Auburn schools. They are among the best in the state. The Auburn University faculty have imposed their will on the school system and it is very very good.

I don't know about Chambers County but I would guess it wouldn't hold a candle to the Auburn City Schools. You would be dealing with a rural Alabama County and this is often quite iffy.

BTW - I am a University of Alabama graduate!....

Lee County is vibrant, growing and well managed. The new Kia plant in West Georgia has a lot of suppliers located in Auburn/Opelika.

I am always prejudiced toward university communities as their faculty members bring a higher level of sophistication to their areas.

Move to Auburn and don't look back. Additionally you will have a higher rate of real estate appreciation...

We moved here in August from Cinci, Oh. We live in Auburn at the moment, renting until we 1)sell our home in OH (and we just did!) adn 2) buy a home. My daughter is in the 1st grade at Wright's Mill Road Elem and it is excellent. All of the schools in Auburn are excellent.

We are considering purchasing in Opelika as well and I have been researching the schools and neighborhoods. Opelika's school system is also very good to Excellent. Homes tend to be a little less in Opelika as well.

So either place you live, you should do fine. From what I hear from parents that moved to Auburn from Lee County school system - don't live outside of Auburn or Opelika if you have school age children. There a lot of people that rent in Auburn and own homes in other areas of Lee County (they rent them out to other folks) just so their kids can go to Auburn Schools. So the Lee County schools around Auburn (I've heard that Valley is good) are not too good.

Hope that helps! We love living here.
