I've wanted to move to Bama for years but never did. Been to Mobile once and loved it. I'm definitely a country boy at heart so I was wondering what small towns in AL would offer great country living with good hunting, fishing and (crabbing, if available) at an affordable price? I'm looking for a decent piece of land in the woods with a normal size house, nothing fancy, I don't do fancy, but not too far from a larger town or city in case I need to run to a hospital or large store or something. Any suggestions? I work in construction so hopefully finding work won't be too hard.

Crabbing? Then you probably want to be near the gulf coast.

Well, you might try Bayou La Batre. They had some hard times with Katrina but maybe doing better these days.

Stapleton, Robersdale, Loxley, Bay Minette, Summerdale. Stapleton is not too far from the bay but land will probably be cheaper there and you aren't too far from Mobile. There is hunting there too. Bay Minette is not too small but there is a lot of land around. The others are closer to the Gulf so prices may be higher.

I have abstained from making a comment or suggestion, as because I live in Fairhope, I will be attacked as biased and racist by certain people on this forum. But I feel that before deciding on a location it is good to look at ALL possibilities. I've lived here 9 years...and love it. No regrets! It is sad that some Mobilians feel everyone on the Eastern Shore is a racist if we point out how nice this area is.I had similar experience in Atlanta...south side vs north side. Sad....

Check out these sites... www.beautifulfairhope.com, www.youtube/smalltownflavor.com. There are more other sites, but these will be enough to give you a taste.

Good luck !

Ok thanks I appreciate the advice, I would probably prefer to live more inland because I don't want to live directly in hurricane alley but I don't mind driving an hour or so to crab or saltwater fish. I was thinking somewhere in between mobile and Tuscaloosa would be nice, kinda like a happy medium.

Atmore would be about as far north as you would want to go if you want to live around an hour away and even then you are going to be more than an hour away to do saltwater fishing.

How is Chambers County? Being it's my last name, was wondering if that would be a decent area? lol

Very rural. I mean very!
It's way more than an hour from the coast.

Greenville, Alabama, about 30 miles South of Montgomery is nice little rural town. About two hours to the coast.

I grew up in Chambers county and its rural and not a lot there. Used to be a lot of Textile mills, but they are being torn down as I type. Very depressing.
