I have found a nice lot in Guntersville AL, with a septic already in place and water meter. Very affordable. How is the Patterson Drive area ? This will be a retirement home - 5 mins to Wal-Mart. It is for my 84 yr old mom. Is it a safe nice senior neighborhood? Anyone know? Thanks for your advice and input.

It's been a few years since I've had any contact with Guntersville, b ut i would suggest you contact the local Police dept and possibly the Minister of one of the local churches.

It is mostly older/smaller homes right there. I would say the area is tired.. Guntersville is a very safe area overall. There is some theft but nothing really bad usually. I have a friend who lives down Hwy 205 so if I go to his house I will check it out for you.
What are you looking to spend on a home? I know there are some foreclosures in the neighborhood my friend lives in that are less than 100K

You can also call the PD.

The area is a pretty good retirement area. The only think that I would worry about around there is the risk of landslides (regarding safety). As long as the house is pretty far from any significantly steep inclines, there should be no worry. Otherwise, I think Sand Mountain is one of the best places to retire.

I drove around there today but missed the turn for Patterson. There are some OK houses in that area. The one place I was thinking about is closer to 205. Big lots and really not too bad. The first 2 houses on Pleasant Hill are vacant so not sure about that. Will try again next time I am over there
