Probably just the result of the credit crisis and bad real estate market the last few years, also the higher costs of homeowners insurance in some of the areas doesn't help either.

According to the MLS, there are 603 homes for sale(by realtors) in the Fairhope/Point Clear area. This is a LOT! Many were spec houses by builders, and quite a few foreclosures...more than normal. But this is no different than the rest of the country. Even though many sellers do not want to "give away" their homes and are asking too much(thus houses sitting for years), there are great buys out there. Fairhope is no different than any other town...we feel the pinch for sure.

100% correct. If it's priced right it will sell. Too many people with their head in the clouds, they need to come on down to earth and get real.

This is a direct quote from the Mobile Register. For those who feel that Baldwin County is in trouble, please read below. Being 21st out of 600 makes us who live here very proud.
http://blog.al.com/press-register-bu..._top_4_pe.html

"Baldwin County's relatively healthy economy has again placed it near the top of a list of nearly 600 small, urbanized areas nationwide, the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance announced today.
Palm City, Fla.-based economic research firm Policom Corp. ranked Baldwin County 21st out of 574 so-called micropolitan areas -- areas covering at least one county and having between 10,000 and 50,000 people.
The ranking places Baldwin in the top 4 percent of micropolitans nationwide, and represents the sixth consecutive year the county has placed within the top 40, according to Bob Ingram, president of the alliance.
Ingram said that Policom bases its rankings on dozens of factors including behavior of the economy and negative aspects of the economy."

And Fairhope is a charming community, and it is NOT only for senior citizens. For those who feel this way, please feel free to check the schools here.

I do not understand the basis of that rumor...neither I understand the folks who without knowing the FACTS, comment that people here are snobs. Just because there are folks that are wealthy, that does not make them snobs.

There was a Shrimp boil on Monday at Fly Creek Cafe, a benefit for one of the Fairhope barbers who has cancer. Over 540 plates were purchased, close to $10,000 were raised, and many wonderful Fairhopians came and volunteered. Two weeks ago another benefit was done for a young man who needs a heart. Many young people came and donated hard earned money and made this day a success. (The young man's mom is a friend and she said a lot was collected). I have now seen ow this small community of all kinds of people have come to the aid of those in need, even when the economy is in such bad shape. So please, get to know Fairhope, the real Fairhope, before posting your opinions.
