Well Mandy - before we can get back to your question there are some of ours. Small towns with inexpensive housing are all over AL. What besides inexpensive housing and 4wheeling determins your choice? What do you do for a living? What do you plan to do? Are there any special needs you have to consider?

Apologies - not making fun of TN; you may know/learn, but every state has their little quirks and foibles, that others [even those that inhabit them, and love 'em
] enjoy ribbing about. Ok? Its all in good nature - no harm is intended. As to your dilemma, as Threestep asked, some additional feedback from you would help. For example, as I also posted, do you have any prefs as to where on the border you'd like to be - east, central, west? As to names of small towns, we could sit here for long time listing them all - and some may or may not have apartments that fit all of your criteria. Not trying to be smart/rude either Just as said, you have very long area that you are requesting about, so would help us help you to know more about what ya are looking for. For example, you mention a mall job - however, you also request a small town... to me, and I've been wrong/mistaken many times , but those two are not really mutually go together, ya know? Malls, at least ones that are hungry for help, esp. inexperienced help [no offense! ], are found in larger towns. Smaller ones have your Dollar General or General Dollar, whatevers...Maybe if ya grab an atlas/map, or even look on-line at the border, and find a town that looks of sufficient size that might be in an area you are interested within, and then go from there? For example, again, that Bridgeport, AL area I mentioned - there is not a mall per se in that area, and its about the largest on the border in that area, but there are places to rent. To find a mall of much size, I would guess that need to go to place like Chattanooga, Huntsville, and maybe Muscle Shoals. Seriously, wish ya best, esp. with desire to start a new life and all - admire that! ![]() |

I cannot tell you about the small towns but in Birmingham a mall job will not cover rent, insurance and frugal living. Without a car you are stranded.
You will graduate from high school in 2008? Have you tried getting on as teller with a bank in your hometown? Starting pay is not great but hours are regular, benefits are ok, most offer tuition assistance plus tellers are in demand everywhere. It is a stepping stone. Please consider that at 18 you are not of legal age. |

Putting aside 'dropping out of homeschool': you are on the edge of making a really bad decision. Not finishing high school almost guarantees that you be working at low wage jobs your whole life.
I know Murfreesboro well (some family lives in Rutherford County). You will be competing for jobs and housing with students at MTSU. You're right that knowing some people might help, but you'll need more support than friends usually provide. |

Mandy:
Don't drop out! Finish and get your diploma and enroll at Middle Tennessee State in Murphreesboro. Get a college degree...you can get tuition assistance/student loans....work in the Mall at night and go to school during the day... |
