I don't think I EVEN want to know what "potted meat" is. This thread has me scratching my head a bit.

LOL! A little bit of poking fun at ourselves...a little bit of confession! Go to the grocery store, look in the "canned mean" section - you know, corned beef, chili etc. There will be little pop-top cans of "potted meat," although it may not be labeled that. Makes a great lunch, spread on crackers, the way my daddy used to eat it. Often accompanied by Vienna sausages (and in 'Bama, you pronounce it "VY-enna," not "Vee-enna"). Potted meat is really mostly fat and a tiny bit of ham, ground fine, with spices. When you ain't got much money, it keeps body and soul together!

Thanks Southlander. I think I just lost my appetite.
I thought I was going to lose my lunch the other day when one of my employees was talking about "ox tails"!
I thought she was pulling my leg. She wasn't. Seriously, who decided it would be a good idea to eat an animal’s tail?!

When I first moved here, the guy I worked for temporarily took me out to lunch one day to a "meat and three" (I had no idea what the heck that was). Some place downtown, Franks? Fletcher's? Something with an F. I think I must have turned 3 shades of green when I walked in there. I had not heard of half the stuff the were slopping on to people trays as they slid them by. I ordered a plate of lettuce.

No offence meant to those who enjoy the traditional southern cookin' stuffs but I'm thankful that Birmingham offers a great variety of cuisines to choose from or I would probably die here.

Oh no! It gets bad when YOU start recognizing T6s by engine sound and know the pilots.

Come on, you are a big girl? Oxtail is lean meat which has to be braised or slow cooked. In various disguises it shows up in French, Italien, Chinese ... you name it. Makes great sauce.

Giggle!!! I had the cafeteria versus green cardboard experience a long time ago at The Hubb in Weedowee. Real truck stops do not have rabbit food on the menue. The waitress sent home for it.

I still cannot stomach cereal. Looks too much like hamster pellets.
