My mom called me because she had heard on national news about the storm. Her mom had called her because it looked like there was tornadoes etc. None of that, the storm was a joke.

There are no refrigerators with internal generators...

I would go to Costco now and buy yourself a 5500 watt generator. It will run you about $600 with tax. Then you buy 25 foot, commercial quality extension cords and you are ready to go.

Put the generator outside and run 2-3 thick extensions into your house. YOu can run 2 refrigerators, all of your lamps, all of your stereo/TV equipment, your microwave (for two minutes or less). Basically, once you are hooked up it's not too tough at all. You cannot run your oven or dryer or AC. Everything else you can...we made it through Katrina like this...

It is important when anyone is building a new house in Alabama to have:

1) Gas water heater
2) Gas stove/cooktop
3) Gas furnace

When we have power outages, all of these will work, even the furnace if you have it wired for your generator.

I'd go and buy the generator now....just fork over the money and take it home. Set up the wheels and put oil/gas in it. Then crank it up. Get familar with it and then put it in a corner and forget about it. Either drain the gas tank or put gasoline stabilizer in the full tank.

When a storm comes, you won't be able to find one. They will sell out and you will be very sorry. When you DO have one - power outages become a minor inconvenience....when my power went out at 11 am with Katrina on Thursday, I was all wired up and we lived the next 7 days just fine, until the power came back on...

You may not want to tempt Mother Nature. So far we have been lucky this season.

I agree it was terribly disappointing...now more cool, dry air coming in for the next few days....

I've lost 20% of my yard this year and was hoping we would get a nice long dump.

sigh....

That was my style of storm. Nothing! Could of definatly used more rain but I have been through a tornado when living in Wisconsin and don't care to see another one.
After spending the last 6 years in Florida, with several hurricanes I am good for many years as far as storms are concerned.
The weather is beautiful now. Will be going to Chattanooga in the morning to pick up my Harley's, should be a nice ride back to Ardmore.
I know I am going to like Northern Alabama!

Did that change last night at 1:30. Hello humans, something is going on!!! Out fourlegged weather alarm went off and I spent the rest of the night scratching ears. Good morning America I am dragging.

Is everyone ok? At least we got rain.

I didn't invent the term so I can't claim ownership to it, lol.

Ours are going through some issues from remodeling, too. Ours is a DIY, though, so it's dragging on longer than a professional job would. They keep coming in and getting in the way while "checking it out" to see what we're doing. The others would like to help but can't get into the room--thank goodness!!!
