Also...you can't live in the Decatur area without a copy of the Junior Leage of Morgan County's "Cotton Country Cooking." It has classic Southern dishes that are served at supper clubs and Sunday school dinners all over. Ask for a recipe, and you'll often be told, "It's from Cotton Country."
That's funny, I looked high and low for the white sauce while in Bham, and everybody looked at me like I was crazy. One person even told me no such thing existed, it was some made up Yankee thing. LOL

It's kind of a "new" thing for the rest of the state. White sauce was originally used on bbq chicken, but it is now being promoted for all kinds of bbq. Look for the bottle with "Gibson's' on the label. Southern Family Markets carries it...maybe Bruno's in Birmingham? Or Kroger.

Isom Farms, as Southlander mentioned (I doubt they had anything either this year)

Most orchards also have produce stands and sell jellies and such. There's a produce stand on the Beltline west of 65 in what I think is technically Priceville that sells local and semi-local produce, fruits, nuts and honey.

The Easter Freeze killed almost all the fruit this year in N. Alabama and the drought isn't helping either. Please help these guys out and give them some of your produce dollars this year and next if you can. Many of them sell seasonal items like Christmas trees and pumpkins, too.

Pick your own listings: Where to find pick your own farms / orchards in Alabama for fruit, vegetable, pumpkin and Christmas trees
Local farms: Local Harvest / Farmers Markets / Family Farms / CSA / Organic Food
Alabama Farmer's Markets, Roadside Stands, etc.: State of Alabama - Farmers Market Authority
Thanks so much for these links. So sorry the drought has hurt all the farmers this year. Maybe we're going to start to see some relief now that we're getting some rain.

Oh Southlander...you made my mouth water! I can just taste that fresh cider! Is the farm easy to spot off of US 72?

They have a fruit stand right on 72...south side of 72. They also have all kinds of pumpkin varieties...orange, white, green...and all sizes.

Rick in Dixie - mmm, 'Bama' mayo, made in, uh, Richmond VA

I do buy regional foods like 'Mt. Olive' pickles, Corner of Cucumber and Vine, Mt. Olive NC.

And Jack Daniel's whiskey from just up the road in Lynchburg TN. And Prichard's Rum, made in Kelso / Fayetteville TN (AFAIK the closest -legal- distillery).
